Well this seems to fail the common sense test. Story was included in @mattlevine.bsky.social newsletter, and will no doubt be picked up on as employment law gone crazy, just when the government is trying to get a workers rights bill through parliament. UK really not doing itself any favours here.

Slightly different post this week where I talk to a good friend in investor relations about what the death of the sell side analyst business means for companies, and whether social media can help fill the research void.

Not a great headline for the UK in today’s WSJ. I think the piece is grossly unfair but it’s worrying how easily Labour are losing control of the narrative on all these issues. Love to hear @alastaircampbell2.bsky.social views on how the UK can combat this. @therestpolitics.bsky.social

If today ends with tariffs - purportedly needed because of drug smuggling and illegal immigration - placed on Canada but not Mexico then I will be very confused.

PIMCO arguing that UK rates have further to fall than markets expect. Terminal rate of 2-3% vs 4% ish priced in today. My only nagging concern is that the BOE will remain too caught up in inflation credibility for too long (because I’ve never had confidence in Andrew Bailey’s reading of markets).

I know, US equities have looked expensive for years, and keep roaring ahead anyway. You can tell a tale of earnings growth and AI productivity. But the US looks really really expensive today - not just stocks but credit spreads at lows. Plus there’s hubris in the air. All that makes me nervous.
