Edmonton resident, grad student, corgi parent. Not necessarily in that order.
I remember a certain leader crossing the floor because of this faction and their refusal to accept LGBTQ+ rights. I wonder what she’s doing now?

That legislation was not introduced yesterday. I heard that it's now likely to be introduced tomorrow. Unfortunately I cannot make it for then.

I have far fewer tools available now, but I can at least choose visibility in the face of such a blatant attack on Albertan's rights.

The decision to be there Monday was not neutral, nor was it about me. Bill 9 was expected to be introduced—using the notwithstanding clause to strip trans youth of their access to life saving care. The bill claims to be protecting youth yet both the courts and every medical organization disagrees /2

I took a history 300 class on the evolution of human rights.

Positive rights like housing weren’t included during the French Revolution because suddenly they were dealing with a war.

I often wonder what the world would be like if the rest of Europe didn’t respond when they did—even if it was later

Assuming the airport you happen to be in is relatively safe, too… the risk in some countries would be much higher

So the monorail was forecast to cost $1 million/mile

The LRT that was actually built—with cost-saving measures like using the CN right-of-way—cost $6.5 million for 7.2 km.

I don't think the monorail proposal would have had underground stations, though

Hmm. Horkheimer, maybe not. 🤭

I’m more worried about what this narrative does to discourse overall and its policy implications. The gap between “the Frankfurt School is eroding our freedoms” and “critical race theory wants you to be ashamed” feels more like a venn diagram.

We stayed in the Latin Quarter a couple years ago. The stairs to Metro were, in fact, crowded.

I mostly remember because we hauled our luggage going up those stairs.

What if I, a Canadian, told you there are other options, including legislating bipartisan-appointed commissions—not elected officials themselves—responsible for redistricting?

That said, I am also a fan of PR.

While I am Métis, I’m also English, Scottish, and Irish. Even the Red River side is all Scots.

Most of my friends on the prairies had a few people referred to as “my aunt—well not really my aunt she’s a friend of the family”

So idk what to tell you.

I definitely grew up calling my parents friend auntie and uncle. And a few of my grandparents friends got grandma and grandpa…

Depending on how you interpret form override, there’s a case there as well. She suspended the right to choice in vaccinations that she added—that’s not exactly a carefully considered and targeted legislative approach.

I reached out about a corner I could see from my house that had weekly/daily collisions while I was in office

It’s still just a pedestrian crossing

I got a response about the modelling not supporting further intervention.

Haven’t lived there in 6 years so don’t know if it’s still that bad

So… sola scriptura?

Now I’m wondering if similar groups exhort for Buddhism, Confucianism, etc.

I suppose with Buddhism that’s basically Theravada, only recognizing the Pali Cannon…

From an engineering standpoint maybe. The mountains would be tricky. From an economic standpoint…

I’d be happy to get to Calgary on a train, and/or be able to trust the schedules. I would *love* cross-country HSR, but I doubt it will be done any time soon

2 days? Last time I checked Edmonton to Montreal was more like a week by train

Also… I had staff between me and the emails. While read as a cis het white man. I can only imagine what being the first set of eyes on them is like, and I am very aware my experience would be very different today

I asked: Same address/person/content? Do they sound like venting?

How much faith do you have in exiting common spots to (relative) safety? What’s needed to improve that?

Your replies sound like they’re coming from people that never received threats like this

I’m sorry you’re going thru this

IIRC there are a couple reasons.
Inefficient supply chain, who'd have guessed; and
Scarring, blemishes, etc. It's usually cows with perfect complexion that go into leather. Which diminishes supply quite a bit. So… beauty standards strike again, I guess
