When it rains, the roses flop over. This one is pretty enough #underneath it fits the #blueskyartshow theme. Such contrast!
A dark red rose with petals that are white on the flip side. The flower bud looks white until the petals start to unfurl, showing the dark color top side. Only noticed because the rain filled the flower and made them flop over.

Raindrops on prickly poppy, Argemone polyanthemos, in the sand dunes of Kearny County, western Kansas for the #Texture theme in #BlueSkyArtShow this week. The dichotomy of crepe paper petals with intensely angry-looking prickles covering the rest of the plant always gets me.
Flimsy white petals over a prickled unopened flowerbud and the rubbery, prickly-edged leaves of aptly named Prickly Poppy, all speckled with rain drops.

The theme is #Green for this week at the #BlueSkyArtShow. This is where we look for warblers in April at Clinton Lake, near Lawrence, Kansas.
Looking through a horsechestnut understory in a Oak-Hickory forest in early spring foliage. The woodland phlox makes bright purple exclamation points in the green of the palmate leaves of the horsechestnut saplings.

This week's #BlueSkyArtShow theme is #Silhouette. We heard this wandering swarm of honeybees before we found them, Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, April 2024.
A swarm of honeybees forms when an older queen moves away from the hive and loyal drones follow her rather than stay with a younger new queen. The swarm hangs together in trees in loudly buzzing blobs until an appropriate new home for the hive is found, sometimes with the help of experienced beekeepers introducing them to a new hive.
