This is the ingame model - basically a box. I used the high poly model to rework the 128x128 texture.

I referenced the artwork for Rollcage (PSX) to achieve the right balance of geometric detail and jank UV mapping.👌

I created a high poly version of the APC in #DERELIKT in Blender. Its for a pre-rendered CGI cutscene, so it was important to find the right balance between quality and 90s 3D jank.🤪

Yesterday our technical artist made the NPCs in #DERELIKT follow the player with their head. Suddenly they feel so much more alive... 🤯

I cut a window into Collier's room in LVL 08 - so you don't have to talk to a locked door anymore. I also spent a million hours getting the lighting just right so I hope ya'll appreciate it 🫠 #DERELIKT

All lighting in #DERELIKT is painted by hand using vertex color. (Sometimes I bake lights to vertex color, but I always touch it up by hand.)

It's the most fun part of the process, as it really transforms a scene!

It looks even funnier in motion, Bluesky isn't the best with Gifs it seems 👁️👁️👁️ The Oculus is a passive enemy that buffs others. Better take it out first - if you can find it! #DERELIKT

To finish my story (so far): While I secured funding to finish development, I am currently self-publishing #DERELIKT.

That means I can freely show you the dev process!🔍
But it also means we currently have no Publisher assisting with marketing or ports.🥲

Work on #DERELIKT essentially restarted in December 2024. While we could reuse most assets, we started from scratch on the code side.

The whole story is even crazier - WAY crazier - but due to legal stuff I can't go into more detail. 😅 Things are still kinda shaky, but we'll make it somehow! ✌️

I had nothing in January 2024. Instead of giving up, I wrote to more publishers. Over a hundred in total.

It took a full year, but I managed to secure new funding for #DERELIKT. The budget was smaller - I could only afford a team of three. But we'd make it work somehow. (cont.)

So there I was - unemployed, with nothing but my old #DERELIKT demo from 2022. I couldn't continue working on the full version because the code belonged to the company. I had no team and no money. (cont.)

Alas, making #DERELIKT at that place was not to last:

Remember the big industry layoffs in 2024? Me too - I was there! Our parent company cut costs and projects got cancelled, including us. A ton of employees were let go, eventually including me and my team.😥(cont.)

In February 2023 I was offered a job at a big game studio. I got a team, and two years to create #DERELIKT.

I quit my job and became a professional game developer. Talk about being thrown in the deep end! My literal dream came true. (cont.)

I finished a vertical slice demo of #DERELIKT in late 2022. I worked alone, after my day job, on fridays and weekends.

When I was done, I sent out the demo to a few publishers - the worst they could say was no. Amazingly, one said yes.
