A vast majority of crime in the world is not committed because of malice, but by necessity. Studies show that assistive social programs *drastically* reduce crime. When people don't have to steal to survive, they stop doing it. That's real social science, and it makes a lot of sense.

Not as interesting when you think about how obvious it is. Public libraries provide services like internet access that help people get jobs. Mine even has a training program to help people get their CDL, among other things. Supporting community means less reason to steal and hurt.

These are the same people who vote to "get all the Mexicans out" and then throw a hissy fit when their favorite taco place shuts down. I'm not sure reminders would help, but I appreciate the optimism.
