If it is genuine the Labour government needs to fire whoever is in charge of PR. Not a Labour supporter but had hoped for better than we are getting and alarmed at who they are willing to handover to next election.

Wholeheartedly agree with that. Journalists do not have to dance to their tune but most choose to, so it has become a tedious unending cycle of news for the sake of it or smoke screening.
