Yes - but also more complicated than that. For Putin, if you designate queer ppl as product of morally corrupt West then you symbolically separate from the West by marginalising queer ppl. This has happened in a number of places, where queers stand in for western ‘perversion’ etc.

Same for any kind of disability-related benefit. These days your doctor’s note often holds little weight compared to the assessor who makes the recommendation.

Yes good point. They’re all so stupid they don’t realise that they’re weakening the US and diminishing its influence in the world.

Same with foreign aid. They think it’s this benign, bleeding heart liberal policy but is actually a form of soft power (which is of course not to diminish the good work of many of the programmes).
