The Roman empire ain't shit.
Centralised govt? Psh. Decentralise that shit. Build your city on a lake. Have city-states pay tribute to you. Anger them until a colonial power comes by and knocks you down a couple pegs (and wipes out several long-standing empires). Live a little for the sun-god.
