I did research on Victorian flower language for this! From my queer gaslamp gothic short story Friend of the Damned... Owen doesn't like lavender very much.
I breathed in and almost choked. Lavender and ashes, lavender and wine, lavender and some sweet-spicy potpourri, but most of all, lavender, overpowering lavender. Like a dog’s perfume, the kind I’d used when I’d been a servant, to hide that true canine scent from my betters. My so-called betters, as these people were.
