Today, I had a lot of fun at my daugther's elementary school, where I talked about the importance of healthy soils and the beauty of soil organisms (which is easy if one has the fantastic photos of @frankashwood.bsky.social). Next generation of soil scientists is secured I hope 👨‍🔬👩‍🔬

Had a great time with my friend Steffen Seitz of @unituebingen.bsky.social and our visitor Alon Nissan of @hebrewuniversity.bsky.social. My second very fruitful scientific exchange this year that was made possible by @euerasmusplus.bsky.social 😊.

One of the cool things about Hanover is that within only a few km distance, one can find one of the worst soils of 🇩🇪 (podzol: 21/100 points) and one of the best soils (chernozem: 96/100). Of course, both are equally beautiful 😍, irrespective of how fertile they are

Now THAT is what I call a proper soil pit 😅. Visited my wonderful colleagues @franzibucka.bsky.social and Nele Meyer of @goetheuni.bsky.social today to admire this beautiful loess soil profile (including "little" traces of bioturbation 🦡)

Had a brilliant time at the Baltic Sea the past two days with colleagues from Uni Rostock and my great student Tobias from @unihannover.bsky.social. We measured #biocrust stability in the field and want to find out if we can correlate coastal dune stability with hyperspectral imaging data.

Preparations for our state-wide soil excursion are in full flow. Very much looking forward to when this is finally ready. Stay tuned if you want to learn more about the soils of Hesse 🤠

Flying home after a great week in Florence, where I did a @euerasmusplus.bsky.social lecturer exchange, taught about the use of CT in soil science and even got to see the new CT scanner of Uni Firenze 🤓
