This is silly. Tariffs should be used to protect strategically important industries or to retaliate against beggar-thy-neighbor trade policies. They should not be used to punish countries like Canada, who share part of the burden of absorbing global saving imbalances.

Maria Corina Machado is incredibly courageous and charismatic. But her Nobel could prove a hindrance in the short term. It won't unseat Maduro, but it will miff Trump in a big way, and this is whom she had been counting on to push regime change. She's been very effusive in her praise of Trump.
