anyway, a new and incredibly detailed study has been released about the ever-famous dunkleosteus, suggesting that it was a macropredatory generalist rather than the ammonoid specialist it is often portrayed as

Four species of cetacean can be found in the Seridic wetlands. Only the Seridic river dolphin (top) is a permanent resident. The other three (estuarine dolphin, river whale, and Crescent narwhal) venture with high waters during the wet season then retreat to estuaries and the gulf during dry months.

In my excitement for Prehistoric Planet: Ice Age, I’m looking back at the Pleistocene palaeoart that influenced me most as a kid. This megalania (Varanus priscus) by Peter Trusler is one such piece, bringing this most incredible of lizards to life so vividly that it almost feels like a photograph!

There are over a million insect species (that currently have scientific descriptions, at least), and they're *everywhere* ... under rocks, on flowers, around lights at night, in tree bark, and more.

Tuatara were mistaken for lizards when first encountered by Western naturalists. Now we know they're Earth's last rhynchocephalian: a lineage related to squamates. The clade is successful in Kaimere, though only one is found in the known world: the Shezi.
