New Chinese sanctions today on American defense industry in response to US arms sales to Taiwan.

Targeted US companies are mostly involved in drones, AI and defense technologies more generally.

I make the case that although economic security and free trade are often seen as conflicting, Taiwan’s modern history provides at least three examples where choosing free trade over restrictive economic measures has led to substantial geopolitical gains.
