You could have a small number of candidates who are perfect for the job, but their applications are buried under hundreds or thousands of unqualified candidates.

Many hiring platforms have a similar problem.

How do you filter out scam applicants, unqualified applicants who just apply because they can, or partially qualified applicants? Even if the candidate says they are qualified, are they really qualified?

It seems that mentioning “over 100 applicants” instead of the real number would encourage more candidates to apply rather than not apply after seeing the accurate number.

Regardless, employers still have to filter through the hundreds and thousands of applicants.

When discussing your experience, visually show spreadsheets, documents, websites, designs, GitHub repo, etc.

You want to be remembered while your interviewer is interviewing someone else!
