Can't wait to share more about the game with y'all 👏👏👏
Introducing STARSEEKER, a brand new game from the developers of ASTRONEER.

Happy Trans Day of Visibility! Like many of the games you play, Astroneer just wouldn't be the same without the hard work of trans game developers or the support of trans gamers the world over. We stand with the trans community today and every day 🏳️‍⚧️ 🏳️‍⚧️ 🏳️‍⚧️

Look, having a strong personal brand is important nowadays. This is what they meant, right?
Feel like I absolutely made the right decision hiring @thelegendlarry.bsky.social as a producer on our team.

Interviewer: Can you explain this gap in your resume?

Game Producer: I'll have to check the retro notes and the sprint velocity reports for that milestone. You want a JIRA ticket for that? What's your point estimate and due date?
Interviewer: Can you explain this gap in your resume?

YouTuber: In order to explain gaps in resumes, we need to talk about medieval systems of apprenticeship and the industrial revolution, and even... a little bit of Marxism. But first, thank you to the sponsor of this interview, Better Help!
Interviewer: Can you explain this gap in your resume?

Literary critic: It's the space between sign and signified, which is left for interpretation by the viewer.

Neat! And what a great, albeit very focused, example of the plethora of skills a game team can use.

Another year older…!

Eight years ago today, Astroneer first launched. It’s been a rollercoaster ride since then, with the release of dozens of updates as well as our first DLC. Thank you so much for your support all this time. We’ll keep doing us if you keep doing you!

I love the threads that are "explain your job poorly" but have always had a hard time figuring out one for game producer. That is until today...

100% What's the phrase?
If everything's important, then nothing is.
I think the biggest lesson I've learnt in game dev is knowing which hills to die on. There will be hills daily. Ideas and features you believe in are numerous but they all won't fit in the product.

If you fight on every hill you will be exhausted and you will annoy people. Pick you hills with care.

Game devs, take the extra 5 minutes to set definitions of done for your work / tasks!

90% of issues in scheduling, alignment, or review hell can be solved by a strong understanding of what something needs to be considered finished.

Students: I want to make a video game!

Me: do it! It’s the best way to learn!

Students: it’s gonna be a multiplayer cozy survival extraction shooter roguelike!

Me: …who taught you to spin word salads like this. Who hurt you. Show me and I will show them no mercy.

Hey, remember to let your teams know if you're gonna be out early for the holidays.

It'll give them time to ask for support to unblock them in your absence and it'll give you time to give said support.

Use this time to prep yourself to really disconnect over the holiday break!

I've found it extremely useful in my work to have a work journal to organize and record my own tasks / assignments.

I use a modified bullet journaling approach that has pages for Quarterly goals, monthly deadlines, and weekly tasks.

If you find yourself overwhelmed give journaling a try.

A #gamedev team's rituals are like foot wear.

They're gonna out grow certain kinds, they'll need different kinds, but they'll always need something on their feet to support them.

A team's rituals can and should change as they move through the different phases of development.

Aspiring #gamedev producers, it may not feel like it sometimes but you are a leader for your team and that comes with responsibilities beyond just doing your day to day.

So remember the advice of Larry Cullen, the brother of Peter Cullen aka Optimus Prime:

"Be strong enough to be gentle."
