Just last week I released the final version of my dungeon crawler Solo RPG: Dungeons of Galora. It is inspired by the History and culture of the Latin American ancient civilizations. All artwork made with pen and ink!

First, I look at the XP that the monster gave in 2e. I then assign a CR with XP close to it. So take a 2e aboleth: it gave 5,000 XP, which is CR 9 in 5e. Not too far off from its actual 5e CR of 10.

It's not a perfect, one size fits all table, but I am confident you could make a monster that would perform as expected for it's CR in comparison to official monsters using the table.

Concept: 9/10, established a formula for Starter Kits we see happening (Phandelver etc.)
Story: 3/10, almost non-existent but insinuated.
Keep: 4/10, great, could have gone further.
Dungeon: 2/10, guilty of palette swapping the same dungeon
