I mean by definition if Trump's popularity is permanently damaged then clearly the Democrats got far from "nothing" out of the shutdown. They got a few other things-like SNAP benefits being funded for the next year and Trump and his party being branded clearly as wanting to kill ACA subsidies

For the last month Nate Silver's narrative was "it's day 30 of the shutdown and Trump's approval rating hasn't dropped" he can't say that now as even on his own average Trump is down 4 points the last week

What Nate Silver chooses not to acknowledge for some reason is that there has been very little polling since Trump the last few weeks and what there has been has mostly been Trump friendly polling
