Discussing video games.
The Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess (new Capcom game) demo was more fun than I expected. The demo is up on PS, Xbox, and Steam.

Kinda bummed it's not getting a physical release though.

Wasn't even looking for her yet but managed to stumble upon the Sphinx!

Dragon's Dogma 2 (PS5). My Arisen (left) and main pawn (right).

Loving the game so far!

Tomorrow. Going in with no expectations (pretty much set for the year with games already) so anything cool will feel extra nice!

Sega of America didn't do a physical release of "Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name" in the west for some reason.

Thankfully it was easy to snag and region free gaming is wonderful (and the game + shipping was a bit less than the digital copy so even better).

Looking at the 2024 game releases (with confirmed dates) and was surprised to find only 2 games I'm planning to get so far this year?!

Last year this time there were triple that. Not complaining. Both games look to be large in scale and it gives me time to catch up/replay stuff. Year of the dragons

Along with several high-profile games, 2023 had so many remakes, remasters, and re-releases.

These are my favorite games released this year (still have two more I want to play, Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Like A Dragon Gaiden:TMWEHN but they'll have to wait til later) in no particular order.

Having a chat with Lucky (Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Switch).

I've played my Switch more in the last 3 weeks than the rest of the year but apparently the "year end wrap-up" cut off before then. So the data feels incomplete.

Either way Super Mario RPG has been my favorite thing on it this year (still looking forward to checking out Super Mario Wonder).

Got a funky hat glitch in Spider-Man 2. Sadly it only lasted a few minutes (even sadder there's not the green and black Big Time suit in 2, rocked it hard in 1).

New PS5 system update adds low frequency sound to attract spiders to Playstation 5 systems. Sony hopes the influx of live spiders to people's gaming spaces will remind Playstation owners to purchase Marvel's Spider-Man 2, available now exclusively on the Playstation 5. 🥸

Vanquish was released 13 years ago today (Oct. 19, 2010) for the PS3/Xbox 360! Developed by PlatinumGames, published by Sega. Directed by Shinji Mikami (director of the original Resident Evil/RE:Make, RE4, God Hand, etc.).

A frenetic 3rd person action/shooter/cult hit (with a robot dance party)!

The Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) was released 38 years ago today (Oct. 18, 1985) in test markets starting in New York City (nationwide launch was Sep. 27, 1986), two years after its Japanese release.

The NES cost $149.99 and had a launch library of 17 games, including Super Mario Bros.

I wrote up today's Hideki Kamiya/Clover Studio posts yesterday. Making the connection on the date was serendipitous but with Kamiya's track record of being, playful, I wondered how pointed the date was.

I watched his youtube video today and couldn't help but notice his Clover shirt. Interesting!

Mikami would leave PlatinumGames in 2010 (after Vanquish) while Kamiya (pictured below) announced that he would be leaving on, oddly enough, October 12, 2023. 17 years to the day of the Clover Studios closer announcement.
October 12, 2023 at 5:14 PM
Several key figures (Atsushi Inaba, Hideki Kamiya, Shinji Mikami) would then go on to go on to found PlatinumGames in 2008 with the merger of Seeds Inc. and Odd Inc.

From 2003 to 2006 they developed six games across the GameCube, PS2, and Nintendo DS:
Viewtiful Joe, Viewtiful Joe 2, Viewtiful Joe: Red Hot Rumble, Viewtiful Joe: Double Trouble!, Ōkami, and
God Hand....

October 12 seems to be a big day for Hideki Kamiya. Capcom announced (17 years ago today, October 12, 2006) that Clover Studio would be closing, barely two days after the NA release of their newest game God Hand (see previous posts). The official closer date was March 2007 (small thread):

Started the Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores DLC recently. It's still such a pretty game. Not just in terms of the engine/PS5 power, but the environmental design and art direction.

Lush foliage, the changing lighting, thick moving clouds, and the night sky full of stars. Just fun to explore.
October 11, 2023 at 5:07 PM
The rumor (from what I've read) was that the original NA version, seen below here, was deemed too violet so they changed it to the fist passing by the head as opposed to through it. It certainly makes sense since, as you said, the head position feels off if he was hit in the face.

Sony announces the PS5 Slim. Both in disc and digital versions (499.99/449.99), though this time if you buy the digital you can add on the disc drive later if you like (sold separately, Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive as a separate add-on for $79.99).

As for me, I love God Hand. It's a little funky, even a bit jank at times. It's far from the prettiest PS2 game. The gameplay though is unique, fun, satisfying, challenging, and can put a smile on your face. A true cult classic and another Shinji Mikami favorite!

There's tons of videos out there if you're interested in seeing and learning more.

Getting an official copy has, sadly, become difficult. The PS2 physical version has gotten pricey. A digital copy of the PS2 version was released on the PS3, but unless you already have it that's no help either.

Street Fighter 6's custom character builder for World Tour mode. It works in a similar fashion to how you customize Gene (there's even easter eggs of God Hand's Poison Chihuahuas in SF6).
October 10, 2023 at 5:49 PM
God Hand's legacy also continues in other ways. Little nods in some of Mikami's games, a line in Enter the Gungeon, and even within Capcom. Gene was considered for MvC3 (lost out to another Clover character, Amaterasu from Ōkami), Asura's Wrath devs drawing inspiration, and most recently this year
