A #horror & dark fantasy #audiodrama #podcast. Parapsychologist Malcolm Ryder helps those who suffer the supernatural. Starring Kristin Holland | By Jac Rhys
The relationship between Pierre and Dolokhov might be my favorite part of War & Peace. They start out as prankster drinking buddies - tying a cop to a bear.

Years later, Dolokhov sleeps with Pierre's wife, and so they duel. Pierre wounds him. Their relationship shattered.

Dr. Ryder got asked about multiverses awhile back and initially I wrote out a long answer to the question. After doing so, I realized I didn't want AVFD to be a multiverse so I didn't use it for the show. But you can still read the answer here:

Maybe this is just because Miller's Crossing is one of my favorite Coen Bros films, but The Glass Key and Red Harvest (inspirations for the film) are better Hammett novels than The Maltese Falcon for me.

Anyone else prefer those over Hammett's most famous novel?

With generative AI (visual, text) - they used art and writing without permission - causing ethical issues.

With voice, that's not the case. More indie books will be available in audio now. But less narrators will probably get work.

A few things I love about reading Agatha Christie - most editions I've grabbed have a Cast of Characters to remind you who everyone is. Also, most her books are around 200 pages.

If your book is longer than that you better be one hell of an author telling an amazing story.

I'm sure others have already made this point, but if Kenneth Branagh wanted to play a detective with a weird mustache AND have it be spooky, why didn't he just adapt Jules de Grandin?

He's not a good Poirot. But he'd be a great de Grandin.

What James Bond novels are essential reading?

I've read Casino Royale and Dr. No - without reading all of them (at least right now), I want to figure out which are the 3-5 *must* read books in the series.

A few weeks ago I watched The Sweet Smell of Success for the first time. Burt Lancaster as J.J. Hunsecker is one of the best villains I've ever seen in a film - based on the real-life Walter Winchell. Just menacing.

I need to go back and watch it again.

I'm not a big anime or manga guy. That said, a friend got me to watch Attack on Titan awhile back, and I absolutely loved it. My mind keeps going back to it - it hit me in the same way A Song of Ice and Fire did - complicated characters, morality

Is the manga worth reading?

I loved The Ballad of Black Tom (also by LaValle), and the book this is based on has been on my reading list for awhile. Maybe time to finally read it before the series starts

Clive Barker often starts his stories with these poetic and philosophical introductions that make it impossible not to read on.

Currently rereading Weaveworld:

Shoud note to - a villain of this story is a Salesman, much like in AVFD

Over the past three years I've been collecting (and reading) Library of America sets. So far I've loved the private detective series (Hammett, Chandler, MacDonald) the most, but just picked these up as a birthday gift to myself:

#audiodrama people - what are some of the best romantic comedy ADs? The genre is mostly dialogue in other mediums, it feels like it's perfectly suited for podcasting.
