I go with write FROM what you know. Even full-on fantasy needs grounding in life experience. If I stuck to what I knew, I’d writing stories about working in publishing, and there’s more than enough of that nonsense.

I had a teacher who reversed that and said "Know what you write." Like if you're writing about Elizabethan England, you don't need to already be an expert, just do some research beyond reading Shakespeare and watching Elizabeth. Research is one of the fun parts anyway. I found that much more useful.

I super adore the Ys series but consider Celceta a very "meh" bump in the road unfortunately. Like, people enjoy it, but I felt it wasn't the one for me and couldn't wait to be done with it.
