Long since the time of the giants, around 60 water mills were operational on the Mirna River. As far as I know, none of them are operational today. Most have fallen into ruin, while some are up for sale.

Once upon a time, as legend goes, giants and humans inhabited Istria. As parts of the land were arid, the ruler of the giants, Ban Dragonja, took pity on the humans and ploughed three river beds. One of these was Mirna (meaning Peaceful or Calm), named after his wife.
