Once upon a time, as legend goes, giants and humans inhabited Istria. As parts of the land were arid, the ruler of the giants, Ban Dragonja, took pity on the humans and ploughed three river beds. One of these was Mirna (meaning Peaceful or Calm), named after his wife.
