Tonight I joined community activists to hear Sen. Kevin Hertel talk about state budget & negotiations. #housedistrict10 #michiganbudget He’s active in his District—from Grosse Pointe Park to Algonac & Harsen’s Island. I appreciate residents attending meetings and their interest in state politics.

Republican Speaker of the Michigan House says he would have had a budget done in time if there was a provision saying he had to. But there’s not, so he didn’t. Tell Matt Hall to get to work — he shouldn’t need a law to force him to do what he was elected to do.

Even my House Republican colleagues believe they shouldn’t be paid for not presenting and passing a budget. 2 weeks ago they canceled session for the week. House Republicans would rather be on vacation than work this summer. Hold Republicans accountable — tell Republicans to get to work!

I'm glad to announce I was appointed to serve on our House Agriculture Committee, as Minority Vice Chair. I love this committee because agriculture addresses issues from food to labor. I was also appointed to the Finance Committee and look forward to sharing proposed legislation w/you.

Martin Luther King, Jr.’s mission was peace, equality, civil rights of all. The irony is we celebrate him as a President who opposes that vision is inaugurated. This reminds me the struggle continues for our country free of malevolence & hate, & that with fearlessness & purpose we shall overcome.
