I wrote a piece for @thetransmitter.bsky.social www.thetransmitter.org/sex-differen... With the fate of NIH-funded research uncertain, it is extra important that the work we do now is most likely to benefit everyone. Adhering to SABV in the lab and in grant & paper review is the right thing to do.
Amid NIH upheaval, how to keep sex as a biological variable
Even in the absence of formal instruction to do so, we should continue to hold our colleagues accountable for SABV practices.

New illustration up at @thetransmitter.bsky.social for sex differences in the neuroscience - now facing a new challenge.

Thank you AD @rebeccasky.bsky.social and text by @docbecca.bsky.social
"To have so much expunged in the course of a few weeks has been crushing. Years of progress, erased with the click of a button." @thetransmitter.bsky.social is doing a great job covering the damage to neuroscience from the Trump administration 🧪

Feel free to read the article below!

Very fun process during the sketch phase with this one.
“Reading, in particular, is an important exercise in inferiority, an insistence on listening to something without imposing your own design on it. It’s a grounding and an ascension,” writes Tim Donahue.
Opinion | Let Students Finish the Whole Book. It Could Change Their Lives.
Had they merely read the summary, my students would have seen many of the same words, but they’d have lacked the feeling part.

Reading a whole book - full melting immersion animated for the New York Times Opinion last Sunday.

Tim Donahue argues reading a book from start to finish gives students a fuller experience.

The New York Times book review from the last year, was a celebration of drawing, liveliness and chaos.
I like to come back to this drawing from time to time.

First collaboration of the year is out in TheTransmitter - an animated impression of how variety in hormone levels affect the brain - interesting read and another great step towards better understanding of the female brain.

Thanks! @rebeccasky.bsky.social

About finding the truth within. Not entirely the same but looking for truth in visual rather than a polished style rings close.. thanks! @alexanderchee.bsky.social
I wrote a little about the impulse to invent a “better” life in a personal essay as a rejection of yourself—and a more interesting truth—in disguise.

One of my favourites of last autumn was this still life of left behind chairs and some forgotten coffee mugs. Illustrating on the topic of 'meetings at work' for the Neue Narrative magazine. This was one of a series of drawings, so it was great to bring some more of a moody image in.

On animal consciousness for TheTransmitter. Exploring unexpected odd colour palettes in almost optical correlation-reminding of the colour blindness tests.. making the whole image almost move without motion.

2024 brought a great collaboration with Rebecca for TheTransmitter full of neurology themed topics: Here the paint smeared portrait speaks to Alzheimer's research in a female brain, both the progression of the illness and our yet fuzzy understanding of it.
