My Fairy Beefmother has struck again. A box of Portillo's Italian beef was delivered today with nothing in the gift message. This happens a few times a year. I have my suspicions as to the culprit, but no one will own up to it.

I had a vitrectomy done today - high myopia is such a joy - and Nurse Arthur has taken his duties seriously.

I hope that Congresswoman Davids and all House Democrats take every opportunity on every possible platform in the next weeks to point out that they are ready to do the work of the House, but that Speaker Johnson has chosen to shut down the House rather than address the Epstein Files. This action is a gift from Republicans and Democrats must not screw it up. Keep it on the news and on social media. Lead off every appearance with it. Make the GOP choke on it.

Need some happy news? Daughter's service dog is 3 years post-treatment for thyroid cancer. He has now been released from monitoring by his oncologist as today's check - films and labs - were "perfect". Every like of this post equals celebratory scritches for Merlin!

It's time for Auntie Karen's reminder of flag etiquette for Memorial Day. Flags should be flown at half-staff until noon on Memorial Day, then raised to full staff at noon. To fly a flag at half-staff, the flag should be hoisted briskly to the top of the staff, held there for a moment, then lowered slowly to half-staff and secured. If your flag is fixed on a pole and cannot be displayed at half-staff, it is appropriate to attach black ribbon streamers or a black bow at the finial of the pole. This should be removed at noon.

In the before times, I had a job in a high school library. In an effort to get students to read the notice board, I'd post trivia when there wasn't something important. Nine years ago, I wrote this extended limerick in honor of Edward Lear's birthday.
"Today is May 12. Edward Lear was born on this date in 1812. His "Book of Nonsense" popularized the limerick. An Englishman named Edward Lear Wrote humorously without fear He crafted his rhymes With only five lines They're the limericks many hold dear. And so on the date of his birth We acknowledge the li.erick's worth Those short rhyming jokes Appeal to some folks Leaving them chuckling with mirth. So if a limerick's your kind of wordplay It's time to start rhyming away Go on and allude But don't be too crude It's National Limerick Day!
