There’s definitely a flattening within the new movies w/r/t Paul’s relation to Fremen culture and religion. It feels like pale atheism on the part of the screenwriter, hence why half the Fremen were turned into skeptics in the films. Herbert’s atheism is more piercing, Paul’s mandate more crushing.
