Reading Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas was a very similar experience for me to reading Less Than Zero. I felt like an archaeologist. There was a time when the book would have stuck a nerve, but its’ venom decatalyzed long ago.

I did not like The Topeka School at all. It felt like such a self-congratulatory novel, where no effort is made to disguise the autobiographical. Write what you know, sure, but let the characters speak on their own terms. Abandoned it, no regrets.

Fahrenheit 451 was much more sophomoric on the reread than I expected, but it’s still a more pertinent dystopia for the present time than 1984 or Brave New World

A Confederacy of Dunes is hands down the funniest book I’ve ever read. I look like a madman reading it in public because I can’t help but chortle every paragraph.

read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? finally & the links between it & Blade Runner are threadbare. don’t know what The Discourse is around this book, but I love how there are two separate police departments in the novel and PKD feels no need to address this after its no longer useful plotwise.
