Didn't Facebook become Meta and build the "Metaverse" to avoid some fines levied by the EU in 2021 or so? I can't imagine the fines were more than $77 billion

But, like, how and why are there so many extremely weird people (or enablers of extremely weird behavior) all over our institutions? I mean I get it, but it's also still constantly breaking my brain
