Desperately needed a pick-me-up after today's Gaslighting Doctor Experience™, extra condescending Edition. Felt too guilty for the wine/giant tub of ice cream solution so opted for some shiny fairy lights instead. Not beating the "bunch of Corvids in a Trenchcoat" allegations anytime soon

Have to appreciate the alluring siren call of the _mainline sewer replacement construction_ hole outside my window after a really shitty appointment with a really shitty doctor. The body wants to yeet into the sweet oblivion of improved civil infrastructure

I just found out that the guy (Brian Catling) who wrote the amazingly weird & wonderful 'The Vorrh' (which I just finished & loved) also did the beautiful glass pillow memorial sculpture at the Tower. ARTISTIC RANGE boy howdy

Peony Lantern is an atypical tale in that it focuses largely on the supporting cast. Set in the Edo period during Obon, the noble son of an esteemed samurai clan falls in love with a ghost - with the people around him desperately (or not) trying to save him. Also highly reccomended!

Spent my Halloween watching some Japanese classics. The famously lush 'Kwaidan' (1964) and 'Botan Doro - Peony Lanterns' (1968)

Kwaidan is an anthology of 4 famous tales & a compulsory watch for any film buff. I particularly enjoy seeing Heian Japan on screen so it really hit a sweet spot for me.

Please tell me this is the official orange menaces' account, if so it appears I've been blocked by the f*ckin POTUS. What an achievement

It's spooptide so it's book season for me again. I finished His Black Tongue which I loved, jumped straight into Howls from Dark Ages trying out Spotify's new audiobook feature but was swiftly hit with listening hours limit bs halfway through 🤬

Been practicing painting plein air. I'm not satisfied with this one tbh but I get to spend time outside in nice environments so it's still a win.

Everyone online is banging in about The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron (it's on my list) but this is my next read. It seems a logical primer before tackling the actionable plan. Are you an #artist who's read this? What did you think?

Finished labeling, panning, selecting & making palette Index cards. Big #watercolour, small #gouache. More essential tasks done. A few of the pans will remain mystery paints & most tubes will have to be reclaimed as time goes on but for now I got the basics covered. #art #painting

Another day, another street find.

That'll be the next painting

I somehow managed to severly compact the nerves in my shoulder so I can't sit down for long sessions but I'm making good progress on this in shorter stints. Next steps: adding/balancing colours & contrast, then the next stage of details in metallic Kuretake and ink

Whoever it is who's having a severe midlife crisis in my neighborhood right now, I hope you're ok man

Ages ago I got a bunch of used watercolour supplies off Facebook for 20£. Crazy good deal. Hadn't touched my own in a long time. Now I feel a tiny, faint spark to paint again. It's an emotional process. Been cleaning up & organizing the mystery palettes & unlabeled pans. Now I'm ready to swatch.

Spring feels like nature trying to cheer up a soggy, rotting sandwich by throwing glitter at it. I'm the sandwich and it's working (just a little bit)

Was looking at assets for flyers involving metaphorical bridges and these... decidedly did NOT make think about Bungee jumping at first.

But good to know if you ever need pictograms for when the next fash leader gets publicly "freed"

Today I learned about Golden Tabby Tigers, a rare colour morph of the already highly endangered Bengal Tiger. This is Ava from Bangkok.

Apparently it's hard to see. Here's what I mean. I placed one row of orange stitches under the wrong place and it threw off the repeat. Looking at it from further away, you immediately notice the pattern is slanted at the point.

I ended up starting again. The off-kilter colours of the first try bothered me so much. I treated it as a failed swatch & used the opportunity to adjust a bit. Much happier with the work now, it's coming along nicely. 1st now, 2nd before

The finishing is always my least favourite part of a project. But things like blocking make SUCH difference.

Pictured: crochet lace panel, intended as a cover for an unsightly utility shelf, pinned to black blocking boards. Part of the panel is blocked, the rest is still in it's natural state

My MH has been shithouse - so I'm trying to destress with some crochet. HOWEVER the colourwork pattern being off-kilter is proving to be a tough challenge for my pathological perfectionism, causing me more stress. I want to rip it up so badly 🥲
