Read a great article from Ryan Sims

So, 173,500 Canadians lost their job in January 2025, but, because of seasonal adjustments, the employment report showed job gains of 76,000.

Looks like the rates are going to be coming down Friday.

Bond yields have been down for a couple of days now. We should be starting to see rates in the 3's in the next couple of days here in Canada.

For those asking why Trudeau didn't do this sooner, he did Dec 17th. If you think this wasn't a power move, you are wrong

BMO already revising to 6 rate cuts over the next 6 meetings in Canada. Interest rates are about to fall through the floor because of #tariffs

Instagram post on tariffs and the decision for the changes in the land transfer taxes being cancelled in Canada

I am so sick of the infighting of politics here in Canada. Should Ford have called an election during a crisis? No. Should Trudeau have resigned a while ago? Yes. Does any politician care about the common person? NO! So why is everyone fighting for "their side"

The Bank of Canada to stop Quantitatve tightening in March
January 29, 2025 at 6:29 PM
The consensus is that the Bank of Canada should cut rates by 25 bps (0.25%) tomorrow. More interesting will be their tone on future rate cuts. The market is expecting them to signal they will hold rates for the next few rate cuts, Any other tone could see the bond yields 📉and make fixed rates follow

Freeland reversing $250 cheques on Friday and resigning Monday is an interesting timeline. Canada is in a state of flux, yet we don't call for an election

The market is only pricing in a 58% chance of a 25 BPS rate cut in January in Canada. I feel like you don't cut rates as aggressively as you do and then stop entirely. Will be interest to see inflation numbers next week and how that changes expectations

Now this is a housing plan! @bonniecrombie.bsky.social coming out swinging. Obviously, we need to see more on a granular level but this is something I have been pushing for a long time.

As predicted the BoC lowered their overnight lending rate by 50 bps. Great for Variable interest rates. Bond yields haven't moved a ton in response so fixed rates may not change significantly if at all

NEXT WEEK RATE CUT PREDICTIONS:

Employment numbers just came out today and all but solidified a 50 bps rate cute for the BoC on Wednesday. Unemployment rose to 6.8%

Canadian Fixed Rate Mortgages

5-year bond yield is up 25 bps since the Bank of Canada cut rates by 50 bps.

People thought their fixed rates were about to become half a percent cheaper, now looks like we are going to see a quarter percent more expensive.

I agree with the phone calls. I often feel myself turning down the volume when a caller calls in asking a question someone just mentioned the hour before.
