[8/9] Impact:

🥳 bpMRI detects clinically significant #ProstateCancer as effectively as mpMRI, without increasing detection of insignificant cancer.

💙 Adopting bpMRI scans would increase scanner capacity and help more men receive timely diagnoses.

[7/9] ✅ Importantly, the team also demonstrated that bpMRI and mpMRI detect a comparable number of clinically insignificant #ProstateCancer.

💙 This is crucial to minimise overdiagnosis and protect men from unnecessary biopsies.

[6/9] ✅ Excitingly, the research showed that bpMRI is just as effective as mpMRI in detecting clinically significant #ProstateCancer.

[5/9] 👨 In the trial, 490 men underwent a scan.

🩻 Results for bpMRI were reviewed first, followed by those for mpMRI.

💉 If either scan indicated #ProstateCancer, men had a targeted biopsy.

[4/9] 💰 To explore this, we funded a clinical trial called PRIME, which investigated whether bpMRI is as effective as mpMRI in detecting clinically significant #ProstateCancer.

[3/9] 💡 The team proposed biparametric MRI (bpMRI) as a faster, effective alternative.

🩻 While mpMRI uses 3 imaging types, bpMRI uses 2 and doesn’t require contrast agents, cutting scan time by up to 50%, increasing capacity, removing the need for injections, and lowering costs.

[2/9] ️Multiparametric MRI (mpMRI) is now a key part of the diagnostic pathway for #ProstateCancer, thanks in part to research we supported in 2008.

👨 The next challenge: how can we make diagnostic imaging more efficient?
