I also want to note that crowding is a HUGE issue in CA shelters but especially in LA so 1) this is a great way to save lives and 2) PLEASE be kind to shelter workers right now, they are at their limits.
Taking in animals if you can is a small and wonderful thing you can do. Some orgs are looking for fosters for animals already in care to make room, others are seeking temp foster for displaced pets. Animal sheltering can be really stressful during climate disasters!
The thought of animals being abandoned amid the wildfires makes me sick. If you can safely shelter one, you should consider it. I’ve taken in a dog and have two of my own so I’m full up atm www.nytimes.com/2025/01/08/u...
