The intention of 2024 was to simply fit in Mikal & to eventually get room to acquire KAT. That meant drafting a guy who'd accept 80% of the 1st year slot. More likely a project at that point. Kolek is a fair miss... but not entirely unreasonable. He was also older, seemed more ready. 2/

last 4 years:

2022: cleared out space for Brunson & IHart. Looks like that worked out. Keels is moreso that 2nd round picks are hard to nail out. Most around that range in 22 didn't do anything either.

2023: No draft picks (Dallas tanked). Can't fault there.

I was also thinking of the CBS/Yankees era. I forget if there was an actual GM during that era. It's tricky because I think Ralph Houk helped the Yanks win a WS before CBS and Lee MacPhail helped build the foundation for core players during the 70s (Murcer, Munson, Nettles, etc.)
