I did a 20 km estuary walk at the weekend along the Roach valley (Essex) with great soundscape/birds (curlew, avocet, lapwing, hundreds of ducks and waders). My daughter won't be able to at my age #climate #sealevelrise

But downstream it was devastating to see the state of the River Glen, the first river I wild swam in 40 years ago or so. I remember the pinkish hue of the andesite gravels seen through clear water. No longer. 😡

Last weekend I finished @robgmacfarlane.bsky.social's Is A River Alive...this weekend following my 4yo's joyful exploring of a small stream in a remnant of old Northumberland woodland (trespassing of course) - we found a spring. The moorland hills were tinder dry but here water felt abundant...
