When we moved to our current residence, we had a few fireflies, but then we stopped mowing the areas we don't need to, left the leaves and moved branches to brush piles, no outdoor lights at night, and started planting native plants. Then things really got nuts. More: bsky.app/profile/namb...

The photos were taken at dusk then during full darkness, and represent between 5-8 exposures, I can't quite remember. The fireflies are smears of glowing green and orangeish red, showing different species present, and are quite numerous. A stacked photograph image of fireflies in my backyard, among native flowering plants such as lance leaf coreopsis, whose normally bright and cheery yellow blooms are moody in the late evening light. The photos were taken at dusk then during full darkness, and represent between 5-8 exposures, I can't quite remember. The fireflies are smears of glowing green and orangeish red, showing different species present, and are quite numerous. A stacked photograph image of fireflies in my backyard, over a small meadow area with tall unmowed grasses, representing a mix of both native grass as well as overgrown lawn grasses which I'm slowly replacing. The photos were taken at dusk then during full darkness, and represent about 10 exposures if I remember correctly. The fireflies are smears of glowing green and orangeish red, showing different species present, and are quite numerous.
