It was interesting to watch the animal seize up when grabbed by its scruff. Apparently that kitty judo move paralyzes more than just house cats. This is good intel for the post-apocalypse when we're all reduced to fighting bobcats for our food. And I want the boarder on my team when that time comes.

The neighbor is screaming at the boarder to leave it alone and let it eat the chickens it killed. He ignores her and PICKS IT UP by the scruff of its neck. It’s trying to scratch and bite him but he walks out to the street and releases it. Then he shuffles off to bed like it's no big deal.

It’s cheeky, wry, and sometimes laugh-out-loud funny. Compare it to any other English language novel from its period and it easily earns the distinction of being one of the earliest works of “modernist” fiction.

Kate and I flew to LA in 2008 to see the reprisal of this show staged at Geffen Playhouse. What a gift to watch him perform in such an intimate space. Pure genius.
