Large scale art projects take time and lots of prep work to ensure the best possible outcome. Meetings, proposals, site visits, drawings, renderings, preliminary studio work and test samples are all part of the creative process. I enjoy every step but when I get to paint- it feels magnificent! #art

In times of heavy emotions and uncertainty, which is often the artist’s mindset when starting a new body of work, the first step is always the same. Return to nature and stillness. Make yourself comfortable here.

If there was a moment that sums up my point of view, this would be it: Ugo Mulas’ photograph of a Rothko hanging in Kenneth Noland’s house.

Circa 2000. Oil on canvas. 54” x 54”. At first glance this appears to be an abstract painting but I spent weeks traveling around New Mexico photodocumenting sidewalk squares which provided the reference for this painting.

Hard to believe this body of work was 25 years ago.
