I wouldn’t know anything about that.
/s

IIRC, the excuse was concrete sub measured wrong. That was gleaned from the team that was doing CA on the project.

I caught the best draft I’ve ever had this morning. Rolling along at 25 mph and barely needing to pedal. Ride farm roads, win farm prizes.

Watching the TdF this morning and noticing some of the different strategies for bike lanes that France is using. This road appears low traffic, only a center lane for cars but may not accommodate two-way traffic. Bike lanes still defined, but allow for cars to pull to side to allow passing cars.

"We found that people in motor vehicles were consistently described in vehicular terms [...], whereas people on foot or on bicycles were consistently described in human terms [...], reflecting a fundamental difference in how people perceive these different types of road user."

If I recall correctly Tom Vanderbilt discusses some of the psychology with the lack of connection to the person in the car and instead the car as an object in his book *Traffic: Why We Drive the Way We Do (and What it Says About Us)*.

Chapter 8. Everyone refers to the carrying channels as black iron, but that’s a misnomer probably carried through from some older version of the code or union terminology. You’ll find some people say black iron means hot-rolled steel, but you can see that cold-rolled steel is the requirement.

What more could you need? A safe route!? Nah, that would require too much actual planning for something other than cars. But you can always apply for a mini grant. But not for bikes. We can’t fund bikes.

Here’s one where they realized they needed to run a stop sign in order for their pass to make sense. I’ll note WA has the Idaho stop as allowable, but not for cars. If they waited until after the intersection to pass, I’d have been in the bike lane.

I have so many videos like this were drivers put everyone in danger because they cannot be bothered to slow down and pass when it is safe.

@billmckibben.bsky.social you likely won’t remember this, but after we sat down for a breakfast a while back, you encouraged me to “get on skis!”

I encourage you to get @holz-bau.bsky.social’s book.

Apparently only a handful of states do the Enhanced ID, all of them border states with Canada.

Curious if any of these 5 states issuing Enhanced IDs also issue Real IDs for non-citizens, or if WA is an outlier?

Nice statement from Reykdal here tapping the EOs are not laws sign.

I know plenty of people that would be willing to argue to the death the technicality of whether architecture is art or science and whether we should be calling a B.S. in Architecture "art school."

The ask
February 22, 2025 at 9:19 PM
My neighborhood has signs up telling people not the cross the street at obvious crossing points by the grocery store, and they direct them instead down the road, out of their way, to a marked crosswalk. Today I put one of these stickers on one of those signs.

It felt good.

That corner has been boarded up as far back as I could see in Google Street View ... 2008.

Ironically, the ASTM standard for gypsum board uses "wallboard" pretty consistently to refer to your standard panels, and notes its use for walls, ceilings, or partitions; not walls exclusively.

Though I too advocate for just using "gypsum board" consistently throughout without abbreviating it.

This one weird trick should help you with that. Find it under Settings > Accessibility

I doubt it was enough to be something to be “known” for, but the only thing I think I ever tweeted that got more than a dozen likes was this:
