and it's a bummer and unfair that the police can just decide to refuse to follow the law, and that business associations etc will flood the zone with propaganda declaring any attempt at a better world a miserable failure

I volunteered at a refugee center for a year or two and the people I met there were so kind. The older people referred to me as a daughter and often walked or drove me home when I was there past dark. I have never been treated more humanely than by these people who had survived so much inhumanity.
