TediousTextiles on instagram. I love to knit, crochet, embroider, and quilt to avoid dwelling on societal collapse. No I’m not a tradwife - but my wife is 😉
(That is a joke, she’s just a good baker)
I’m going through WPA posters in the Library of Congress for another project, and came across this PSA.

“Hey Jim, we need you to design a poster that tells people syphilis is curable!”

“…okay but I’m gonna put dinosaurs on it.”

“Whatever man, just make sure it’s relevant.”

🔔 Measles case confirmed in Michigan. Exposure may have occurred at the locations below. This is especially dangerous for kids who have not had the MMR vaccine.

These two pieces will be on sale at Posterity Gallery in Grosse Pointe for the rest of the month, as part of their #PortraitParlor exhibition!

In the nick of time for the last day of #BlackHistoryMonth - Bessie Coleman ❤️ She was such an inspirational, determined woman. And of course we love a legendary aviator in this house.

Made of scrap/remnant fabric and a thrifted vintage frame!

Today’s #FiberuaryChallenge is “where in the world.” A lot of people are posting travel photos and fiber festivals, but I don’t have that kind of money 😅 Here’s one of the first quilts I made; flags to represent my heritage! Terrible photo quality because it was at least ten years ago.

Today’s #FiberuaryChallenge is Handmade Gifts. Creating things for my family is my favorite hobby! Below are some mittens I knit for my mom - the white yarn glows in the dark.

Latest #FiberArt - I would love to see this go to someone who works/worked for our National Parks @altnps.bsky.social which are one of the best ideas America ever had. Photo reference confirmed to be in public domain by an NPS archivist. We know you work hard! Not everything needs to make a profit 😒

Today’s #FiberuaryChallenge is #NowAndThen. I thought I’d showcase an older embroidery (the jacaranda tree) next to one of my more recent works. I’m still not where I’d like to be, skill-wise, but getting there!

Today’s #FiberuaryChallenge is #WearItWednesday! I love making items I can wear. This sweater says “Trust me - I have good morels” because I love to go mushroom hunting 😅 Notice I’m posing at the alpaca exhibit at the zoo. If I ever disappear, you’ll probably find me in the UP raising alpacas!

Today’s #FiberuaryChallenge is TwosDay! I rarely knit socks because they take so long, but these were from the book Fellowship of the Knits and feature the leaf design of the fellowship‘s elven brooch. They’re made from alpaca and easily my favorite socks!

Today’s #FiberuaryChallenge is love, so here are my loves showing off their “beards” for the lumberjack 5k. I crocheted them freehand :)

Today’s #FiberuaryChallenge is #texture. Perhaps one of the reasons I like fiber arts so much is because it is a sensory experience I can control. I love the soft fabrics and choosing which textures will depict the image best.

Today’s #FiberuaryChallenge is “mood booster.” Fiber arts are a great mood booster for me because I can feel accomplished, as opposed to languishing in existential despair 🫠

Today’s #FiberuaryChallenge prompt is “inspiration.” I’ve seen a lot of photos of Bessie Coleman, but recently came across this one and it’s my new favorite. Best part? It’s in the public domain so I can use it as a reference to make a portrait!

The good thing about dogs is they don’t know the government is imploding ✌🏼

Today is “looking forward” for the #FiberuaryChallenge and I’m choosing to look forward to new projects instead of spiraling about potential future events. I have a couple more applications to finish up this month. Also, I need to visit the gallery where my work is exhibited (UofM Health)!

It’s finally February! Hopefully this month is better than the last (unlikely). I’ll do the #fiberuaryChallenge to connect with more people on this platform.

I’m TediousTextiles on instagram, where I still post despite wanting to boycott Meta. If we lose our communities, we’re easier to divide.

Our beagle, Comet, is always apawed that we send his boy to school. Or to bed. Or let him play at other friends’ houses. We’re monsters, truly.

Driving to Toledo today and saw a full circle rainbow around the sun. I’m just going to decide it’s a sign 🥰
