Not my usual fare, “angel of splendours” is a take, of sorts, of the work of the same name by Jean Delville. I’ve modified the face, & tentacles obscure what might be problematic to the moral values of the Americanised social media #digitalart #digitalsymbolism #jeandelville #fantasticart #surreal

In 2009 I exhibited a painting, depicting a “secular muse” assailed by religion The secular muse represented the USA, and the assault was by Islam, “9/11”. The US is no longer secular, per decisions made by SCOTUS. The religion assailing the secular muse is now Christianity. I owe a debt to Rops.

In the 19th century Felicien Rops, produced art that, had it been shown anywhere outside France, would have landed him in jail. The Sacrifice of 1882 challenges (or seeks to offend) Christian morality. I think that he was trying to show that beneath the veneer of morality resides depravity #surreal
