😂😂 Okay (sandhi is just the system by which consonants are allowed to combine, and possibly modify, and the anuswara is the little dot on top!)

But that’s just sandhi turning the second one into the anuswara? (I can’t read Gujarati, so I can’t tell if that middle one is न or ण)

Amanda just looks like autocorrect decided enough was enough 😁

The Ns are the same, surely!!

I’m stupid used to my name being mispronounced, both by Indians and non-Indians, so I’ve just given up now. The French just take a shortcut and call me “Vi”, so that’s fine.

I think you’re also obligated to spell your name “Anandh” on those days 🤭🤭

But also, imagine the plight of Roman-script readers if we started writing ज्ञ as -gnya (which is also how it is supposed to be pronounced in Sanskrit, but Hindi takes the shortcut of saying -gya) 😂😂

Haha exactly (I don’t know why it classifies as a vowel other than that it freely combines with consonants without any rules about sandhi, I guess)

Because it’s actually somewhere in between, and other than Tamil that explicitly has a shortened short vowel, AFAIK no other non-Sanskrit language seems to capture that properly!

Ooh, I’ll check this out, I’ve to do the course again next semester! Thanks for the pointers. Glad it’s gone well for you!
