Yeah, I was definitely a bit paranoid about the Empire reading book 1, but after finishing it (and on a reread I just completed) it's extremely refreshing.

I really really enjoyed it but less because of the plot (predictable as you said but still thought it was interesting) and more because of the atmosphere.
