The fire this morning is not just a tragic accident—it’s a symptom of systemic failure. Utah can and should be a leader in solving homelessness. Let’s demand better. Lives depend on it. (8/8)

If Utah’s leaders started “acting like adults,” we could address the root causes: housing affordability, accessible healthcare, mental health services, and shelter policies that don’t exclude those in the greatest need. (7/8)

Utah has the resources to solve homelessness many times over. We have the money, the tools, and the support systems. What we lack is leadership willing to prioritize solutions over the NIMBY mindset and political gamesmanship. (6/8)

And then there’s the issue of shelter policies. Many require sobriety, effectively barring those who self-medicate with drugs or alcohol. This ignores the fact that every street drugs has a pharmaceutical counterpart, and are used as substitutes for medications they can’t access. (4/8)

This low threshold is a deliberate choice by Utah’s leaders. Instead of prioritizing lives, we’ve normalized policies that treat our most vulnerable as an afterthought. It’s a moral failure of leadership and compassion. (3/8)

Last night, it dropped to 29 degrees—dangerously cold. Yet warming centers in Utah only open when it hits 15 degrees or lower. This arbitrary policy leaves people freezing in the streets unless the state deems it “cold enough” to act. (2/8)

Our rising stars, next-generation politicians, and community leaders are out there — we just need to find them, and the state and county parties need to get involved and give these campaigns the support they need, and that includes 💰 and coordination.
How do we get this to happen? 🤷🏻‍♂️ I don’t know.

Who are the “community leaders” now? The ones who folks look up to, who might not even have considered the idea of running for office — but nevertheless would be a heck of an outstanding state representative, senator, school board, or city council?

It could have been in front of the Alamo 😬

But then again, the historical context of that being a losing battle fought over an immoral issue— against Mexico— I doubt they’d even get the historical irony of it all.

Also talking in the realm of theoretical/academic thought experiments and strategic war gaming scenarios — starting a civil war scenario against the State of California is a “Kobayashi Maru” for whoever attempts it.

Never gonna happen — California has the largest National Guard in the country, with over 24,000 service members who will protect their governor and the state’s sovereignty.

It looks like the “Brown Shirts” of this century have switched to more of an “olive drab” palate.
But you’re correct; this “performative costume” he is wearing is intentional — but at the same time, while they try to project strength and power — the performative nature of it shows weakness.

Imagine if Utah Democrats invested more time, money, staff and resources to recruit, and run strong candidates in those house and senate districts this next election cycle?

Can you imagine if the state were to create a comprehensive database of all Utah citizens that includes their medical background info, interactions w/healthcare providers, law enforcement, or any other government service? Unsheltered Utahns deserve the right to privacy just as every other citizen.
