Wikipedia vs Elon Musk

In a world of algorithms and AI slop, the simple joy of aimlessly wandering through a website of ideas is worth preserving.

Let’s remember one thing: Charlie Kirk’s commitment to free speech - if you can call it that - included the stoning to death of gay people, and those who mourn his passing are as bad. For my part I say ‘good riddance.’
Thanks to the USA, this is now a normal front page of a newspaper in the UK.

Hey, UK media!
Are you just going to let Farage dump another steaming pile of populist bullshit on us *without ever* properly scrutinising his ideas or him…his funding, his riots, his links to Putin and Trump, his Brexit shitshow, his grifting side gigs, his lies, his ignorance…?

Performative nonsense; that's what Live Aid was. Live Aid did nothing to help anyone other than inflate the massive egos of the celebrities involved. It was a massive sign of the times, a metaphor for the ugliness that was British society in the 1980s

@therestpolitics.bsky.social I thought Peter Kyle was treated quite rudely during the interview in a way that I've not experienced on this podcast before. I wonder why.

As a Brit viewing from afar, I would say that a country with more guns than people is likely to become completely ungovernable - and it's pretty much most of the way there already - leading to consequences that none of us can entirely predict. 1/6

These foxes were abandoned as pups and then nursed back to health by this Irishman. And even though they were free to return to the wild, they decided to stay with him - forever.

Elie Wiesel once said that hate is not the opposite of love, it's indifference.

Today is not only a day of remembrance, it is also a warning.

Values matter, for they inform our character, set expectations of the behaviour of others, and provide a firm foundation upon which we build decent lives.

It seems that everyone has abandoned these, such as integrity, humility, compassion and fairness. Eventually, they'll all wake up.

I've seen it reported that Must is worth some $500 billion.

So is this the result of hard graft, or is it avarice?

And what can one person do with that amount of money anyway?

Does he even know how much a loaf of bread costs in Walmart?

This deserves serious attention and debate. As a failed Modmin of a car club, I couldn't ever get people to participate face to face or go out on drives as a group. It's exasperating and it causes so much loneliness.

In memory of the USA.

A once great nation, too proud to heed the warnings of the rest of the world, brought down by its own people - but not without imparting important lessons.

We must all learn from them, wherever in the world we may be.

Impressive from Die Zeit. Refuses to show the salute, but calls it out for what it so obviously was.

Please remember that, while you may disagree with her politically, Anita Bryant was a human being with a family, who deliberately harmed millions of other human beings and their families, all to satisfy her own petty and small-minded bigotry, and she left the world worse for her presence in it.
