Great day at work & it's not yet 11am! Led a virtual #CliftonStrengths session for a women's group in DE, bought tons of giftees for 4 kids my team adopted for the holidays & participated in a brainstorm to create a pitch program. Days like this remind me that $50K in student load debt was worth it.

“Abuse & neglect can alter the functional architecture of the brain.” - PsyPost

It's a fallacy when we claim not to bring our "real selves" to work. We can hide pieces of identity, but nature/nurture becomes biologically hardwired & follows us everywhere. It's why EQ matters @ work. #neuroscience
New study reveals lasting impact of childhood adversity on brain development
The impact of childhood adversity on mental health is well-known, but a new study takes it a step further by showing how these experiences can alter the brain’s functional architecture.

End of the work day thought... using other people's ideas to solve our problems doesn't work 99.99% of the time. Often because their resolutions speak to their emotional needs & motivators, not our own. While it definitely feels less risky to ignore our emotional needs, it's not nearly as effective.

Intelligent failure is the "right kind of wrong" - a disappointment that brings new knowledge or territory. It's bringing me something new that I couldn't get any other way. - Dr. Amy Edmondson at #pscyhsafetyday

Trust has an object/person: I trust my laptop to work, I trust Amy to show up, etc. Psych Safety is a belief in the environment. - Dr. Amy Edmondson at #psychsafetyday

Orgs that don't embrace psych safety do so at the peril of the bottom line. Over 70% of employees on teams with low psych safety are looking for a new job in the next 12 months. That's a lot of $ spent in recruiting, hiring, and training - and a mass loss of institutional knowledge. #psychsafetyday

Humans tend to sniff their hand within 30 seconds of shaking someone's hand. It helps us gather important information about others. - Dr. David Samson at #psychsafetyday

Do you think it's true? I'm going to make it a point to observe from now on! 🤝

The institutions in which we work are often evolutionary mismatches and bonds are very fragile. (Working in large groups - 150+ - is asking employees to act counter to their evolution. We weren't built to trust that many people.) - Dr. David Samson at #psychsafetyday

Underuse of power is just as bad as overuse of power. In the absence of title, power migrates. Not stepping into power leaves a power vacuum that will be filled by the loudest or most dominant voices in the room. - Julie Diamond on Power Intelligence at #psychsafetyday
