Writes things. My new book, Our Song, is out now. First book The Real Rebecca won an Irish Book Award. Latest book The Boldness of Betty, about teen strikers in 1913, was shortlisted in 2020. Co-hosts @svhpodcast She/her
I’ve written another romcom! It’s about two scriptwriters who can’t stop arguing but have to work together to save a TV show. Also there is kissing. I loved writing it and you can pre-order it here! linktr.ee/LoveSceneAnn...

Thanks so much to everyone who has not only posted nice things about Our Song but also kindly sent me photos of it on prominent display (and in the charts!) in bookshops around the country 💙🩷❤️🧡

Some excellent post today. Look at this embossed beauty!

It was incredible - palpably changing by the second. All the older buildings in Mitte and Prenzlauer-Berg were still pock-marked with bullet holes from 1945 - totally unrecognisable now. Last summer I unearthed unfinished 1990s letters inc this depiction of my scruffy self at a Berlin institution…

Yes! Or in a very intentional recreation of it. This is a photo of it as I remember it. It was like a fantasy of Berlin - there was even a swing in the sculpture yard with Wings of Desire-esque angel wings on the chains.

Well a machine could do her job and frankly I wish it would. It couldn’t be any worse.

Watching Broadcast News and Joan Cusack basically IS Chappell Roan. Also I would wear all of these outfits now.

It’s 29 years today since I played my very first gig which means it’s 29 years since friend Daragh got tired of waiting for my then-band to decide on a name and put this on the poster without telling us. (A variation on this poster plays a small but significant role in my book Our Song).

Shout out to Joe O’Connor & Rachel Joyce, who chose Catherine Morland as their fave Austen character. I was basically the same age as her when I first read Northanger Abbey and I remember the delighted surprise I felt encountering a teen girl from nearly 200 years ago who felt so real and relatable

An absolutely gorgeous surprise to wake up to this, essentially the first public review of Our Song, in @mariankeyes.bsky.social’s newsletter this morning. And in such excellent company too!

The guitar on the cover is my actual Danelectro, which I bought in Nashville back in 2001! I provided a photo of it for the brilliant illustrator Lauren Mortimer and to my delight she put it in the cover art.

Popping my head up to say I have a new book coming out in June! Our Song is my first novel for adults and it’s about love and friendship and being in a band and figuring out what you really want from life before it’s too late. You can read the full blurb and pre-order here! linktr.ee/oursongbook

I’ve just reread it for the first time in 30 years! I bought it just after it Must listen to this. I bought it a few weeks after it came out - first time I ever bought a newly published “grown up” book.

Carroll’s, whose ten zillion tourist gift shops are a scourge on Dublin, are taking over another piece of prime central real estate that could be used for something to actually enhance the lives of everyone who lives here and are presenting it as a cute little local amenity
