"Of the 121 pedestrians killed in traffic last year, 120 were struck by a car while one person died after being hit by an electric bike" - New York Times (www.nytimes.com/2025/05/24/n... ).

It does not make any sense for cyclists to face harsher consequences than more dangerous drivers!

I agree with all the drivers, we need to make driving better in this country. That's why I propose we design our roads and streets like the country with the BEST driving in the WORLD according to Waze!

(Not So) Fun Fact: NYC had 280 crash FATALITIES in 2023. 259 (or 92.5%) of those involved cars, trucks, and other non-bike vehicles. Maybe they should discuss THAT in the Mayoral Debate instead!

Fun fact: While only 7% of Manhattan trips are made by car, 75% of surface transportation space is for cars only! It's not like the cars are even going fast in Manhattan...

CRAZY FACT: MA and RI have the HIGHEST crash rates and the LOWEST vehicular death rates in the U.S.

How ????

In short: old roads with narrow lanes, awkward angles, and tight turns = a lot of fender benders, but very few high-speed crashes.

Preschool Pickup in Cambridge, MA. It's amazing how much cycling you can get when you start building the proper infrastructure!

People don’t talk enough about how most Americans are forced to own cars (due to how we design our cities) and have to spend over $12,000* a year (!) as a result

*hard to find exact numbers, but many sources wind up around the $12,000 average for all cars (new and used)

Do you know how one man killed U.S. biking? John Forester's advocacy and crazy conclusions, including that street cycling is 1000 times safer than off-street cycling, resulted in decades with nearly no cycling infrastructure building nationwide! Learn more about it open.substack.com/pub/urbanist...

LA-style parking in NYC? What would that look like? Find out more at urbanisttidbits.substack.com

Crazy fact: If NYC had as much parking per person as LA County, it would need a garage covering all of Manhattan—over 8 stories tall!

Yes, the entire island. Just for parking spots.

The math is wild:
• 16M spots
• 5.2B sq ft
• 186.5 sq mi
