The contractions of late stage capitalism are reaching a breaking point. Let's be smart about this shit.
We have more purchasing power when it comes to tvs, laptops or cheap plastic goods. This is true. Compare that to our purchasing power for homes, health care, higher education or child care.

What's important is purchasing power 4 the things that matter not late stage capitalist junk.

Btw Cuba has also independently developed plenty of other therapeutics. The lung cancer vax is cited so often because it's something we don't have.
May 19, 2025 at 2:42 PM
The point is that our systems are captured by free market ideology. Everything is built around profit-driven companies, so the majority of new therapeutics come from them. there are other ways to do it. If Cuba developed the vaccine with the blockade in place imagine what they could do without it.

Yet Cuba was able to develop a lung cancer vaccine, even with the embargo. Miss me with the idea that the only way to innovate is through big profit driven pharmaceutical companies. That's a lie sold to the American people so we will continue subsidizing their profits.

Would be curious to hear about your results. Best of luck to you!

We should be honest about the fact that once you start on a glp-1, many people should realistically plan to be on it for the rest of their lives. And we have to think about whether or not our shit health care system is actually built to accommodate that.

GLP-1's are revolutionary but we also need to be careful proclaiming them as a magic bullet to cure everything. More and more people are cycling them which can have really detrimental health effects.

GLP-1 withdrawal can have lasting health effects
The surging popularity of GLP-1 drugs is beginning to obscure the health consequences if people stop taking them.

Sure but it's not the anti-capitalist left that is upholding article 34 nor killing AB 2881 .... It's the mainstream center-left Democratic party that mostly calls the shots in CA.

The private sector is fundamentally inadequate to meet the needs of the moment and alot of people don't like to acknowledge that fact, so a lot of people won't engage with your argument!

Thank you for this clear and succinct explanation of the problem. The solution to the housing crisis is not "continue the same BS, but make it easier" The solution is to leverage all the tools at our disposal (including the State) to do really big things that help alot of people.
May 6, 2025 at 5:48 AM
Actually most of us just want to but the red tape, stop relying on 'the private sector' and let the government build housing instead of bombs.

Yes,shift the narrative LOUDLY and REPEATEDLY so those still on the fence finally get it.Publish the stories and videos of resistance and most importantly, publish the photos of the ICE agents so their communities(barbers, store clerks, school officials, postal workers, etc.) know EXACTLY who they are.
April 16, 2025 at 4:10 PM
Yup. I see alot of orgs trying to "shift the narrative" saying that immigrants contribute to the economy and community. The fascists already know that.

The message is: "if you come to our community and try to kidnap our neighbors, we will do everything we can to stop that from happening."

Go look at Trump's comments in 2016 about trans people and bathrooms. He called the North Carolina bathroom bill a disaster and said trans people should use whatever bathroom they feel comfortable with. How did we allow them to move the needle this far in less than 10 years? youtu.be/kSyUWkHsOPQ?...

This is private sector innovation, right?! #Medicare4all
April 12, 2025 at 2:38 PM
Why does no one on this thread see a problem with the fact that all our collective futures are dependent on the stock market which is just a tool to propagate the obscene wealth of oligarchs while we settle for crumbs? Yes Trump is a reckless idiot but can we see the big picture for once?
April 8, 2025 at 5:49 AM
Why the left-bashing?! There's a valid left critique of the hyper-free trade global consensus: it drives a global race to the bottom that hurts workers here and abroad. Tariffs are not the solution to this (they can help mitigate damage in select cases) global worker solidarity is the solution.

Philanthropy: "We can't/won't do what needs to be done (hold wealthy people and corporations to account); but we want to be seen as doing something, so here's our comprehensive slate of half-measures and platitudes."
April 2, 2025 at 2:38 PM
We need to remember that this entire nonprofit/philanthropy system is only ~100 years old - started by Carnegie and Rockefeller when their monopolies were broken up and they needed a new pissing contest with each other. It was never about liberation, it was always about benefits for the wealthy.

Over the last 40 years we've built our entire social movement infrastructure around a tax designation (501c3). Now as these institutions capitulate and crumble we see how shortsighted it was to build systems around tax exemptions for wealthy individuals and corporations.
