Easy to see how the cormorant inspired the liver birds in Liverpool. Supposedly if the statues fly away then the Mersey will flood the whole of Liverpool. I'd be more concerned by weeping angels if statues came to life.

Easy to see how the cormorant inspired the liver birds in Liverpool. Supposedly if the statues fly away then the Mersey will flood the whole of Liverpool. I'd be more concerned by weeping angels if statues came to life.

Carrion crows are highly intelligent, omnivorous birds that can potentially love more than 20 years. They have been observed leaving nuts on the road, waiting for cars to crack them open when they drive over them!

A single squirrel can bury up to 3000 nuts in preparation for winter. Some squirrels will only use one or two places to bury their hoard so it's probably good they have good memories for where they buried it!

Best thing about cormorants is their lack of waterproof feathers despite being a diving bird!
No waterproofing means deeper dives and swimming efficiency underwater. They have to dry out every so often, which is why you can usually see them perched high with outstretched wings.

If you get birds in your garden in the winter then make sure to keep some food for them (hanging feeders are better), and stones in a bird bath can stop the water freezing!

Essentially a fluffy lollipop, long tailed tits sometimes eat by hanging off a branch with one foot, and gripping their food in the other to eat upside down (in this case a peanut).

It's estimated that blue tits spend about 85% of daylight hours in autumn and winter foraging for food. Which is unsurprising given they need to eat almost their own body weight in food every day to make sure they have enough energy to survive the cold nights.

Bees are such wonderful little creatures, sadly in the UK their numbers have declined by a third in the last decade. Without them we would have a much harder time producing food, also they are cute.
